Lucknow: The police in the state capital have intensified action against Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals allegedly residing illegally in various localities. Following the recent arrest of a Bangladeshi woman, Nargis, in Thakurganj, the Police Headquarters issued strict directives, prompting Hazratganj and Krishnanagar police to conduct special drives on Wednesday.
Under the supervision of ACP Hazratganj Vikas Kumar Jaiswal and Inspector Vikram Singh, police teams carried out extensive checks in the Dalibagh slum clusters. Officers verified documents of every resident living in the makeshift settlements. During the inspection, several Aadhaar cards were found to bear addresses from other states and were subsequently seized for detailed scrutiny.

Similarly, Krishnanagar Inspector P.K. Singh led a parallel drive in Osho Nagar, Vijay Nagar, targeting shack dwellings reportedly occupied by Bangladeshi nationals. More than half a dozen residents were found with Aadhaar cards reflecting mismatched addresses. These documents were confiscated and sent for verification.

Police have issued a three-day ultimatum to those found staying illegally, instructing them to vacate the premises and return to their native states. Officials stated that such operations will continue to ensure compliance with legal residency norms.
