Awareness programme held at RMLIMS, Lucknow
Lucknow — On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Gorakhpur, donated wheelchairs to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), strengthening the institute’s rehabilitation services. The awareness programme was jointly organised by the institute’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) and the IRCS Gorakhpur branch.
During the event, faculty members of the PMR Department conducted sessions on accessibility for persons with disabilities, disability etiquette, the importance of assistive devices, and the need for creating an inclusive environment in society. The wheelchairs presented by the Red Cross are expected to support and enhance patient rehabilitation at the institute.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Arvind Singh said that the day serves as a reminder that healthcare institutions must go beyond treatment and ensure dignity, comfort, and equal access for every individual.
IRCS Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Ramanand Katiyar said that extending support to the most vulnerable sections of society is the core mission of the Red Cross, and collaborating with RMLIMS is a matter of pride.

Head of the PMR Department, Prof. Dr. V. S. Gogia, highlighted that disability is not merely a medical condition but a social concern, and assistive devices can significantly improve a person’s quality of life. Dr. Yashveer added that the department aims to empower every patient to live with maximum independence and dignity, and the support received today will further strengthen this mission.
IRCS Gorakhpur Health Incharge Dr. Priyanka Yadav appreciated the PMR Department’s dedicated efforts in rehabilitation and disability empowerment, assuring continued cooperation in future initiatives.
The event was attended by Ramanand Katiyar, Dr. Arvind Singh, Dr. Priyanka Yadav, Prof. V. S. Gogia, J. P. Singh (Principal Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs, Uttar Pradesh), Dr. Shaili Mahajan, Dr. Yashveer, and Dr. Amit Ranjan.
Reaffirming its commitment to inclusion and quality rehabilitation services, RMLIMS announced that the PMR Department will host a special workshop titled “Essence of Rehabilitation” during AAPMRCON 2025 from December 5 to 7. The workshop will include discussions on disability, rehabilitation, assistive technology, accessibility, and inclusive practices, providing a rich learning platform for clinicians and rehabilitation specialists.
