District Magistrate Inspects Iconic Heritage Structures of Lucknow

Lucknow: District Magistrate and Chairman of the Hussainabad Trust, Vishakh G., conducted an extensive inspection of the city’s historic monuments — the Picture Gallery, Satkhanda, and Bada Imambara — on Wednesday. The inspection aimed to review structural conditions, beautification efforts, and public convenience measures across these heritage sites.

Beginning at the Picture Gallery, ASI officials informed the DM that roof repair work had been proposed. Directing them to begin the renovation promptly, Vishakh G. also instructed for the replacement of damaged electrical wiring and old chandeliers, installation of drinking water points outside the premises, and maintenance of cleanliness. He emphasized that the first phase of work should focus on roof repairs and interior refurbishment.

During the inspection of the Trust Office located within the gallery complex, the DM ordered window repairs and the auction of unserviceable materials as per regulations. He also reviewed the park in front of the gallery, instructing officials to ensure regular cleaning, grass trimming, and aesthetic enhancement.

At Satkhanda, the DM noted the absence of boundary walls, which led to irregular parking in the evenings. He directed the Additional District Magistrate (East) to coordinate with the Lucknow Development Authority to install either a short boundary wall or bollards. Inspecting all floors of the structure, he ordered complete cleaning, painting, and repair work, stressing that the monument should soon be opened to the public with security guards deployed on each floor.

Concluding the visit at the Bada Imambara, Vishakh G. reviewed the ticketing process and daily footfall. He instructed that all heritage buildings under the Hussainabad Trust adopt a QR code-based ticketing system. Additionally, he emphasized the need to develop a mobile app and website for the Trust to provide information on all monuments and facilitate online ticket booking for visitors.

The inspection reflected the administration’s commitment to preserving Lucknow’s architectural heritage while ensuring enhanced facilities for tourists and locals alike.
