Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Guides Uttar Pradesh on Space Technology Policy

Lucknow: Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a Lucknow native and astronaut who has completed space missions supported by ISRO and NASA, visited the Invest UP office on Tuesday. He discussed the potential for developing a new ecosystem for space technology investment and industry in Uttar Pradesh.

The meeting was chaired by Pandhari Yadav, Principal Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology. Attendees included Vijay Kiran Anand, CEO of Invest UP; Shashank Chaudhary, Additional CEO; and senior officials from the Department of Science and Technology. The main focus of the discussion was drafting a dedicated Space Technology policy for Uttar Pradesh to promote research, innovation, industrial collaboration, and investment.

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s strengths, stating that the state can leverage the Defense Industrial Corridor to attract space technology companies and defense manufacturing units. Applauding the state government’s proactive initiative, he emphasized that the proposed policy should be aligned with global standards to include startups, research institutions, and international partnerships.

During the meeting, the Department of Science and Technology also presented the proposed Akash Bhavan – Space and Astronomy Park in Lucknow. This center will be developed as an inspirational hub for students, researchers, and science enthusiasts. The Group Captain suggested that the project be developed to international standards to become a unique landmark for Uttar Pradesh. This Space and Astronomy Park would be a one-of-a-kind facility not only in India but also internationally, serving as a center of inspiration for both students and scientists.

Invest UP has received guidance from Mr. Shukla for the overall development of this sector. With the state government’s strong commitment, Uttar Pradesh is confidently moving towards entering India’s burgeoning space economy. This initiative will not only encourage research, innovation, and cutting-edge technology but also provide extensive opportunities for job creation, entrepreneurship, and revenue growth in the state.
