Los Angeles — The second-largest city in the United States, Los Angeles, has been gripped by intense and violent protests. Thousands took to the streets to oppose a government crackdown on illegal immigrants. The demonstrations quickly escalated into chaos, with police vehicles being set on fire and attacks on government buildings reported.
The turmoil began on June 6-7 when the U.S. administration launched a campaign targeting illegal immigrants in Los Angeles. Protesters responded by surrounding the offices of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). According to the Department of Homeland Security, some demonstrators turned violent and even attacked ICE officers.
Amid the unrest, demonstrators were seen waving Mexican flags, while some engaged in vandalism and arson on city streets. As the situation deteriorated, President Donald Trump took a hardline stance and ordered the immediate deployment of the National Guard. The federal government also took direct control over the California State Military to restore order.
In a post on his social media platform ‘Truth Social,’ Trump praised the National Guard for their efforts and issued a stern warning: “These rioters want to destroy our country, but we will crush them.” He further criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, accusing them of complete failure in managing the crisis—drawing parallels to their handling of the January wildfire incident.
With tensions running high, authorities remain on alert as efforts continue to bring the situation under control.
