Banda: The 10th convocation of the Agricultural and Technology University, Banda was held under the chairmanship of the Governor of the state and Chancellor of State Universities, Anandiben Patel. In the convocation, the Governor conferred degrees to a total of 347 students of the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and Community Science, which included 259 graduates, 81 postgraduates and 06 research students.
73 percent of the medals in the ceremony were received by girl students. All the degrees were uploaded in DigiLocker by the Chancellor.
In his address, the Governor congratulated all the degree-winning students and wished them a bright future and said that in the last two years, girl students have made remarkable progress in agricultural universities and have received more medals and today in this university, 16 out of 21 girl students have received medals in various faculties. All the students who have not received medals today should do such good work in their lives so that they can also get medals.
She said that women are progressing in all fields and are also moving ahead in the field of agriculture, forestry, horticulture and winning medals. He directed the university to ensure that the technical and other public welfare schemes run by the central and state government reach the farmers, women, voluntary organizations, so that they can become self-reliant and empowered. Due to lack of information, farmers are deprived of the benefits of schemes, in such a situation, it is the responsibility of the students of the university to contribute to inclusive development. The development of all is included in the development of the country. She said that the dream of the Prime Minister is that the Sakhis of the Self Help Group become Lakhpatis and Drone Didis, work is being done continuously in this direction.
On this occasion, the Governor said that there are immense possibilities of agriculture sector in Bundelkhand region. Farmers should do advanced farming with scientific methods and reduce the use of fertilizers and chemical spraying etc., which will prevent various types of diseases. She said that farmers should move forward towards natural farming and adopt natural farming by setting a target, which will definitely bring change in the coming years.
She directed that the university should work to become self-sufficient in groundnut, mustard, linseed, oilseeds under the Pulses, Oilseeds Mission and sit among the farmers and provide scientific information about agriculture so that farmers can increase their production by doing agricultural work in a scientific and progressive manner.
The Governor emphasized on construction of ponds for water conservation and working by making different schemes in the agricultural sector to increase agricultural production. She motivated the farmers to adopt horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries along with agricultural work and said that every possible effort will have to be made to take agriculture forward.
She informed that five colleges are running in the Agricultural University, namely Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Community Science and Agricultural Engineering and Technology and academic work of graduate degree program in Agricultural Engineering and Food Technology has been started, which will facilitate the students in studying the agricultural sector.
The Chancellor said that work is being done to improve Anganwadi centers by connecting them to the university, so that the education and health of the children of poor families can be improved. During the ceremony, she also distributed 150 Anganwadi kits to strengthen Anganwadi centres, out of which 50 kits were provided by the University and 100 kits were provided by the District Administration Banda. These Anganwadi kits were distributed with the aim of promoting the overall development and education of children.
On this occasion, the Governor honoured the children who performed well in various competitions organized among school children and presented books to teachers and principals on behalf of the Raj Bhavan which will be kept in the libraries of schools.
On this occasion, the Governor inaugurated the Banda Agricultural University Botanical Garden and Crop Management Laboratory and also laid the foundation stone of Meditation and Wellness Centre (Kane Nature Park).
In the convocation ceremony, Chief Guest and former Director IARI New Delhi Dr. HS Gupta said that there is a need to increase the agriculture sector in Bundelkhand along with increasing food production, so that the rural economy of this region can progress. Meaningful efforts are being made to revive the cultivation of coarse grains in Bundelkhand. He said that the development of new species of linseed and sesame will increase the production of oilseeds. This area is useful for the cultivation of grains and pulses, oilseeds. He emphasized on doing more research work in the agricultural sector and making rural agricultural research more effective.
In the program, Vice Chancellor Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh gave information about the work being done by the university in the agricultural sector and research work.
Commissioner Chitrakootdham Mandal Banda Balkrishna Tripathi, District Magistrate Banda Nagendra Pratap, Registrar Dr. S.K. Singh, public representatives, members of the Executive Council and Academic Council of the University, invited guests, Anganwadi workers, school children, Vishwavidyalaya were present in the program.
