Proposals seek widening of State Highway 30 to 10 metres and renewal of NH-330 stretch connecting Ayodhya, Gonda and Balrampur
Gonda: Divisional Commissioner of Devipatan Division Durga Shakti Nagpal has initiated efforts to strengthen road connectivity in the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions, emphasising the renewal of National Highway 330 and the widening of a key state highway in Gonda district.
She has written to the Government of India, the Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department and the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, seeking necessary action on the proposed infrastructure projects.
The proposals include the renewal of the Ayodhya–Gonda–Balrampur section of NH-330 and widening a 19.2-kilometre stretch of State Highway 30, also known as the Bahraich–Faizabad–Azamgarh road, from seven metres to 10 metres.
The proposed works are expected to improve connectivity between districts, ease traffic movement and enhance road safety, benefiting commuters, students, patients and businesses.
NH-330 renewal sought
The Ayodhya–Gonda–Balrampur section of NH-330 is an important route for regional connectivity. Its last comprehensive renewal was carried out in 2020-21. Although patchwork repairs have been undertaken periodically since then, the road surface has deteriorated, creating difficulties for motorists and daily commuters.
The divisional commissioner has highlighted the need for comprehensive renewal and necessary maintenance to improve road conditions and ensure smoother travel.
An estimate under the Performance-Based Maintenance Contract (PBMC) for the highway has already been submitted to the concerned office. She has urged the authorities to expedite the necessary action.
State Highway 30 widening proposed
The proposed widening covers the 19.2-kilometre stretch between chainage 42.900 and 62.100 in Gonda district. The plan is to increase its width from seven metres to 10 metres.

The corresponding section of the highway in neighbouring Bahraich district has already been widened. Completing the remaining stretch in Gonda would ensure uniform road width and improve traffic movement.
The route serves the Gonda Sadar and Katra Bazar assembly constituencies and connects areas across Bahraich, Shravasti and Ayodhya. The movement of heavy vehicles transporting construction materials adds to the traffic pressure on the road.
Several important public facilities are located along the route, including the Gonda Sadar tehsil, Gonda municipality, educational institutions, healthcare centres and Kotwali police station. Widening the road is expected to support better traffic management and improve commuter safety.
Financial approval awaited
The proposed widening of State Highway 30 received approval from the Expenditure Finance Committee on September 17, 2026. The project now requires the necessary administrative and financial sanctions before it can proceed.
The divisional commissioner has taken up the matter with the relevant authorities to advance the approval process.
Focus on regional development
The initiative aims to improve road conditions, strengthen inter-district connectivity and make travel safer and more convenient across the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions.
Once implemented, the projects are expected to benefit daily commuters and support activities related to education, healthcare, trade, transportation and other sectors of the regional economy.
The proposed road improvements are intended to address growing traffic needs while strengthening infrastructure and facilitating social and economic development across the region.
