Your starting point doesn’t have to define your destination: Gaurav Singh on Shah Rukh Khan’s journey and legacy

Mumbai: Actor Gaurav Singh, known for his work in television and projects such as Shiksha Mandal, Devanshi, and Krishna Kanhaiya, believes that an actor’s journey is shaped not just by talent but also by courage, resilience, and the willingness to keep evolving. As Shah Rukh Khan turns a year older on November 2, the former shares that the superstar’s career offers valuable lessons for aspiring actors navigating an industry where opportunities can be unpredictable.

“I think Shah Rukh Khan’s journey teaches us that you don’t necessarily need to come from privilege or have connections to dream big. Sometimes, all you have is your talent, your courage, and your willingness to take risks. He came to Mumbai with a dream and created his own path through hard work, confidence, and an incredible belief in himself,” he said.

“As an actor, I find that very inspiring because this industry can be unpredictable and you have to keep showing up even when opportunities are limited. His journey reminds us that your starting point doesn’t have to define your destination,” he added.

Beyond his journey to stardom, SRK has become synonymous with romance, with several of his characters remaining popular across generations. Gaurav said, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge would definitely be one of my favourites. There is something timeless about Raj and the way he approaches love. He is charming and playful, but when it matters, he stands up for the woman he loves and respects her family’s emotions as well.”

“Shah Rukh Khan made romance feel aspirational while keeping it relatable. As an actor, I admire how effortlessly he balances humor, vulnerability, and charm. I think that’s what makes his romantic characters so memorable even after all these years,” he added.

For Gaurav, one of the most important aspects of the superstar’s journey is the ability to recover from setbacks without allowing them to define what comes next. “What I admire most about Shah Rukh Khan is that he never allowed a difficult phase to become the end of his story. Every actor experiences uncertainty and success in this industry, which is never permanent. But it takes courage to step back, reassess yourself, and return with a different energy,” he said.

“His journey, especially the way he came back with Pathaan after a challenging professional phase, shows the importance of resilience and understanding the audience’s changing expectations. I also feel reinvention doesn’t mean losing your identity; it means discovering new dimensions of yourself while staying true to who you are,” he added.
