Uttar Pradesh Approves Comprehensive Rehabilitation Policy for Acid Attack Survivors

Lucknow: In a significant move aimed at ensuring dignity, rehabilitation, and long-term support for acid attack survivors, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved the “Comprehensive Assistance and Rehabilitation Policy for Acid Attack Survivors–2026.” The decision was cleared through a cabinet circulation process and seeks to strengthen financial, medical, social, and economic support mechanisms for survivors across the state.

The new policy, approved under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, recognizes acid attacks as one of the most heinous crimes against humanity, causing severe physical injuries, psychological trauma, social isolation, and economic hardship. The government stated that many survivors face permanent disfigurement, disability, loss of livelihood, and prolonged dependence on medical treatment and rehabilitation services.

Enhanced Compensation and Comprehensive Support

Under the new framework, acid attack survivors will receive increased compensation, along with access to quality medical treatment, reconstructive care, psychological counseling, legal assistance, and long-term rehabilitation support. The policy also emphasizes education, skill development, employment opportunities, and self-employment initiatives to help survivors regain financial independence.

Officials said the policy adopts a survivor-centric approach, ensuring that support extends beyond immediate financial aid. Multiple government departments, institutions, and stakeholders will work together under a convergence model to provide integrated services and ensure survivors can access all available benefits through a coordinated system.

Focus on Dignity and Social Reintegration

The state government has stressed that the objective of the policy is not merely to provide compensation but to enable survivors to lead secure, self-reliant, and dignified lives. Special emphasis has been placed on social reintegration, helping survivors overcome barriers in education, employment, and community participation.

The policy aims to create a structured support system that addresses both the immediate and long-term challenges faced by acid attack survivors, ensuring their meaningful inclusion in society.

Rural Employment Scheme to Launch from July 1

In another major decision, the Uttar Pradesh government has issued a notification for the Developed India–Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural) Act, 2025, which will come into effect across notified rural areas of the state from July 1, 2026.

The scheme is designed to provide 125 days of guaranteed employment per rural household. According to Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, the initiative aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2027 and is expected to give a fresh impetus to rural development.

Besides employment generation, the programme will focus on water security, infrastructure development, livelihood enhancement, and disaster management. The scheme has been introduced by the central government as a replacement for the existing rural employment framework and is expected to play a key role in strengthening rural economies across Uttar Pradesh.
