UP CEO keeps an eye on defaulters in poll season

Lucknow: Chief Electoral Officer of the state,  Navdeep Rinwa said that with the announcement of the election dates of Lok Sabha General Election-2024 by the Election Commission of India on March 16, 2024, there is a need to conduct free, fair, peaceful, fear-free, inducement-free, inclusive and safe voting in the state. Model code of conduct is applicable in the entire state.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that to ensure effective compliance of the Model Code of Conduct, a total of 80,47,916 publicity materials have been removed from public and private places so far. In this, 48,60,573 promotional materials were removed from public places and 31,87,343 from private places.

During this period, action was taken in 5,19,445 cases of wallwriting, 22,82,702 of posters, 13,91,183 of banners and 6,67,243 other cases in public places.

Similarly, action was taken in 4,13,749 cases of wallwriting, 14,54,913 of posters, 7,83,281 of banners and 5,35,400 other cases in private places. Similarly, till now action has been taken in 1143 cases of misuse of beacon lights and flags in vehicles and 2097 cases of violation of the Loudspeaker Act.

40 FIRs have been registered in total 45 cases, including 05 in NCR, for holding meetings and speeches without permission, distributing cash to woo voters, beacon lights in vehicles, misuse of flags and other cases.
