Surya Pratap Shahi warns of strict action against negligence; reviews departmental budget and scheme implementation
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has directed officials to ensure the timely availability of quality seeds and fertilisers to farmers across the state for the upcoming Rabi season, warning that any negligence in supply or disregard for farmers’ interests will invite strict action.
Chairing a review meeting at Krishi Bhawan in Lucknow, the minister assessed preparations for the Rabi season and instructed regional officials to remain actively engaged in the field. He also directed them to conduct regular inspections of fertiliser and seed distribution centres to ensure that farmers do not face difficulties during the sowing period.
Shahi emphasised that farmers must receive quality agricultural inputs on time and that the department should take all necessary steps to prevent supply-related problems. He made it clear that negligence by officials would not be tolerated.
During the meeting, officials presented details of the department’s financial and scheme-wise progress for the financial year 2026-27, up to October 29, 2026.
Against the total departmental budget allocation of ₹10,017.45 crore, approvals amounting to ₹5,755.10 crore had been issued, of which ₹3,641.22 crore had been spent.
Under departmental schemes, against a budget provision of ₹8,386.94 crore, approvals worth ₹4,125.02 crore had been issued. Expenditure stood at ₹3,087.81 crore, representing 74.86 per cent of the approved amount.
Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh, Principal Secretary Agriculture M.K.S. Sundaram, Agriculture Director T.M. Tripathi and Seed Certification Director Kaneez Fatima attended the meeting, along with senior departmental officials.
Senior officers from all divisions and districts across Uttar Pradesh also participated virtually.
