U.P. CM Yogi Adityanath boasts of unique Midas Touch

Lucknow: Yogi Adityanath has emerged as a cornerstone of BJP’s success, transforming the socio-political landscape of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and gaining acceptance beyond state boundaries. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath has played a pivotal role in ensuring  BJP’s dominance across assembly elections, by-elections, municipal elections, and Legislative Council polls. His developmental policies, focus on employment, robust law and order, and economic growth have solidified his stature as a leader whose presence signals electoral triumph.

Transforming Uttar Pradesh: A Development-Driven Agenda

Yogi Adityanath has reshaped public perception of UP, focusing on development and prosperity. His governance has significantly enhanced law and order, creating an environment conducive to investment and growth. As a result, UP has transitioned from a state with a challenging reputation to one perceived as an economic powerhouse. His leadership has established UP as a model state, attracting attention and admiration across India.

Clean Sweep in Civic Elections

Yogi Adityanath’s strategic acumen was evident in the BJP’s overwhelming success in the 2023 UP civic elections. The BJP secured victories in all 17 municipal corporations, surpassing its 2017 tally of 14. Key statistics from the civic elections underline this success:

  • Municipal Corporation Mayors: BJP won all 17 seats, a clean sweep.
  • Municipal Council Presidents: Increased from 60 (2017) to 88 (2023).
  • Council Members: BJP’s tally surged from 923 to 1,353.
  • Nagar Panchayat Presidents: Jumped from 100 to 191.

This electoral performance showcases public approval of Yogi Adityanath’s development-oriented policies, while opposition parties like SP and BSP witnessed significant declines.

Legislative Council Triumph

In the Legislative Council by-elections, Yogi Adityanath’s strategic prowess once again proved decisive. In May 2024, BJP candidates Manvendra Singh and Padmasen Chaudhary won resoundingly, securing 280 and 279 votes, respectively, while SP’s candidates fell far behind. This victory reinforced Yogi’s ability to navigate challenging political scenarios with precision.

National Presence: Expanding BJP’s Reach

Yogi Adityanath’s influence extends beyond UP, significantly contributing to BJP’s successes in other states. Under PM Modi’s guidance, Yogi campaigned vigorously in states like Maharashtra, Tripura, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing BJP’s position as a dominant political force. Key highlights include:

  • Maharashtra: Addressed rallies and secured victories for 22 out of 24 candidates.
  • Tripura: Held six rallies, helping BJP retain power.
  • Odisha: Played a crucial role in dismantling the Naveen Patnaik-led government, paving the way for a BJP government.

Dominance in Assembly Elections

The BJP’s return to power in UP and its stellar performance in by-elections are attributed to Yogi Adityanath’s grassroots connect and development-centric dialogue. Notable victories include Rampur, where BJP’s Akash Saxena ended the stronghold of SP leader Azam Khan. For the first time, the BJP secured Rampur, marking a significant political milestone.

Assembly By-Election Success

The BJP’s alliance victories under Yogi’s leadership are a testament to his strategic brilliance. Key wins include:

  • Gola Gokarnath: Aman Giri (BJP)
  • Chanbe: Rinki Kol (Apna Dal S)
  • Rampur: Akash Saxena (BJP)
  • Swar Tanda: Shafiq Ansari (Apna Dal S)

These results reflect his ability to energize BJP cadres and resonate with voters.

The Perception of Leadership

Yogi Adityanath’s leadership style, characterized by direct communication and a results-oriented approach, has cultivated trust among voters. His commitment to development, transparency, and law enforcement resonates widely, positioning him as a leader capable of delivering on promises.

A Guaranteed Victory Symbol

Over five days, he conducted 13 rallies and two roadshows across key constituencies, further amplifying the BJP’s presence and connecting with voters through his “Vikas and Samvad” (Development and Dialogue) formula.

Yogi Adityanath has prioritized critical constituencies such as Ghaziabad, Khair, Meerapur, Majhawa, and Phulpur, where BJP hoped to consolidate its hold. In constituencies like Katehari, Karhal, Kundarki, and Sisamau, Yogi has invested considerable effort, energizing the BJP base and bolstering its candidates’ chances.

Targeting Mafia Rule and SP’s Leadership

Central to Yogi’s campaign rhetoric is his tough stance on law and order. Highlighting his government’s anti-mafia campaign in Uttar Pradesh, he urged voters to extend their support to the BJP to replicate this success in other states. His criticism of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav’s perceived inaction further strengthened his narrative.

Yogi pointed out the contrast in election strategies between himself and Akhilesh Yadav. While Yogi actively campaigned for BJP candidates, Akhilesh left his party candidates without significant support. This difference, Yogi argued, reflected the BJP’s commitment to grassroots development and strong leadership.

Connecting with Voters

Yogi’s approach relied on a mix of dialogue and development-focused promises. By interacting directly with voters, he built a rapport that resonates strongly, particularly among those appreciative of his anti-mafia policies and developmental initiatives.
