Action Taken Under Government’s Zero-Tolerance Policy Against Corruption
Lucknow: In a significant move against corruption, the Uttar Pradesh Local Bodies Department has suspended two Executive Officers posted in Hardoi district over allegations of bribery and financial misconduct. Departmental proceedings have also been initiated against both officials as part of the state government’s ongoing zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
According to officials, Director of Local Bodies Anuj Kumar Jha ordered the immediate suspension of Krishna Kumar Sonkar, Executive Officer of Shahabad Municipal Council, Hardoi, following allegations of accepting bribes. The action was taken based on reports submitted by the Additional District Magistrate (Judicial), the officer in charge of local bodies in Hardoi, and the Chairperson of Shahabad Municipal Council. A departmental inquiry has also been launched to investigate the allegations.
In a separate case, Neelav Shalya, Executive Officer of Bilgram Municipal Council, Hardoi, was also suspended with immediate effect. The decision followed the circulation of a purported video allegedly showing him demanding commission and accepting bribes from a contractor in exchange for clearing payments. Authorities took serious note of the matter, particularly after an FIR was registered in connection with the allegations. Based on reports submitted by the District Magistrate of Hardoi and other concerned officials, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him as well.
Director Anuj Kumar Jha emphasized that ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in local bodies remains a top priority of the state government. He stated that no negligence, favoritism, or protection would be tolerated in cases involving corruption or financial irregularities.
He further reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government continues to implement a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption. Regular directives have been issued by Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma and Principal Secretary P. Guru Prasad to maintain transparency, integrity, and accountability across departmental operations.
Officials said the swift action in both Hardoi cases reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring clean administration and holding public servants accountable for misconduct. The suspensions send a strong message that corruption and misuse of office will not be tolerated at any level within the state’s local governance system.
