Bareilly: Inspired by Vice Chancellor Professor K P Singh, the Department of Plant Sciences at Rohilkhand University organised a special tree plantation programme on Friday, led by Dr Vijay Kumar Sinhal. M.Sc. and Ph.D. research scholars and students turned out in large numbers for the drive, enthusiastically pitching in to spread a message of environmental conservation and a greener campus.
The plantation initiative, launched by the Department of Plant Sciences to make the university campus greener, was carried out under the guidance and leadership of Dr Sinhal. As part of the drive, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students came together to plant shade-giving, medicinal, and fruit-bearing trees across various parts of the department and the wider campus. Beyond just planting the saplings, the students also took on a commitment to look after them and ensure their upkeep going forward.
Driving home the message of ecological balance, Professor Sanjay Kumar Garg, Professor Alok Srivastava, Professor Jagat Narayan Maurya, Professor Upendra Kumar, Professor Pankaj Arora and Dr Lalit Pandey administered an environmental protection pledge to the students. Addressing the gathering, Dr Vijay Kumar Sinhal said that in the current climate, with rising pollution and the effects of climate change becoming harder to ignore, tree plantation remains one of the most effective ways to fight back.
He also stressed that as students of plant sciences, they carry both a moral and academic responsibility to take the lead in protecting biodiversity.
Saplings of several species were planted during the drive, including jackfruit, tamarind, guava, mango, lemon, and amla, along with a number of important medicinal plants.
The event saw notable contributions from department research scholars and students, including Akash Kumar, Manu Pratap, Vijendra, Sangeeta, Vinay, Mushtaq, Ravi, Vivek, Priyanshi, and Disha, among others.
