Special encounter between Australia, England on cards

Melbourne: To celebrate the completion of 150 years of Test cricket, a Test match will be played between two cricket giants Australia and England. This one-off Test will be played in March 2027 at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Earlier also, a match was played on this ground on the completion of 100 years of Test cricket. Earlier, a Test match was played between these two countries in 1977 on the completion of 100 years of Test cricket. Australia won this match by 45 runs. The first Test match played in 1877 was also won by Australia by 45 runs.

Agreement on match till 2030-31

Along with this, it was also agreed that for the next seven years the Boxing Day Test will be held in Melbourne and the New Year’s Test in Sydney. According to this agreement till the 2030-31 season, the Test just before Christmas will be held in Adelaide while the first Test of the season will be held in Perth.

However, Perth had agreed only for the next three years. This also means that next year’s Ashes will be held in Perth instead of the traditional Gabba, Brisbane.

Construction work going on at Gabba Stadium

Construction work is going on at the Gabba Stadium in view of the 2032 Olympics and during this time some Test matches will be held there. Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said, “We believe that this program ensures that the best cricket will be played at the best places at the right time across the country, with a great mix of iconic Test matches, new blockbusters like the West Test and the Christmas Test and exciting day-night matches.”
