Lucknow – Uttar Pradesh’s Siddhi Singh emerged victorious in the girls’ singles category at the Adarsh Bhasin Memorial AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Under-18 Tennis Tournament. She secured the title after an intense four-hour final against fellow Uttar Pradesh player Aashi Shamseeri, winning 7-6(7-4), 3-6, 7-5.
The tournament, organized under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association and hosted by SDS Tennis Academy at Vijayant Khand Stadium, Gomti Nagar, also witnessed the emergence of Uttar Pradesh’s Sanidhya D. Dwivedi and Anuruddh Kumar as the finalists in the boys’ singles category. Notably, Anuruddh Kumar also secured a spot in the boys’ doubles final, setting himself up for a potential double crown.
In the girls’ singles final, Siddhi won the first set in a thrilling tiebreaker, 7-6(7-4). Aashi made a strong comeback, dominating the second set 6-3. However, Siddhi held her nerve in the decider, leveraging her powerful forehand and precise strokes to clinch the set 7-5.
In the boys’ singles semifinals, top-seeded Sanidhya D. Dwivedi outclassed Delhi’s Hans Anand with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win, while seventh-seeded Anuruddh Kumar edged out Maharashtra’s Aditya Gaikwad 6-4, 6-4 in a close contest.
The boys’ doubles final will see the duo of Anuj and Anuruddh competing against Anarv and Shreyansh. Anuj and Anuruddh defeated Vaibhav and Harsh 6-3, 6-1 in the first semifinal, while Anarv and Shreyansh overcame Mehr and Kaustubh 6-1, 7-5 in the second semifinal.
The tournament continues to showcase emerging tennis talent from across India, reinforcing the country’s growing prowess in the sport.
