Mumbai– Renowned Bengali musician Roy has made his debut in the Tamil film industry with his new single “Theera Mazhai” from the upcoming film “Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan,” directed by SD Vijay Milton. This track marks Roy’s first venture as a solo Singer and Music Director in Kollywood, featuring Tamil actors Vijay Antony, Megha Akash, and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Besides lending his voice, Roy also Composed and Directed the music for this song.
The lyrical music video of “Theera Mazhai” has already received an impressive 1.7 million views on YouTube, showcasing the song’s emotional depth and Roy’s compelling musical craftsmanship. The song’s lyrics by Vanthana Mazan, explore the deluge of hardships one faces in life, resonate deeply with its audience.
Reflecting on this milestone, Roy expressed his gratitude: “Thank you to Vijay Milton Sir for giving me the liberty to sing this song as a lead singer and making me a part of his film. Being a Bengali, I seldom had an idea of Tamil wording; hence, the lyricist of this song, Vanthana Mazan, helped me through the process. Also, I’d also like to thank Kaunteya, who helped me meet and made Vijay Milton Sir listen to my song.”
Roy, also known as Sourav Roy, is celebrated for his previous works in Bollywood. He has produced chart-topping hits such as “Hawayein,” “Balam Pichkari,” “Kar Gayi Chull,” “Boyfriend-Girlfriend,” “London Thumakda,” and “Zaalima,” among others. Recently, he composed the music for “Kaali Teri Gutt” featuring Katrina Kaif in the thriller-comedy “Phone Bhoot,” starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ishaan Khatter, and Jackie Shroff. In 2015, Sourav Roy received the GIMA award for Best Music Producer for the song “London Thumakda” from the film “Queen.” This accolade highlights his exceptional talent and contribution to the music industry.
Recalling his journey, Roy shared, “I come from a small town in West Bengal called Asansol. My father, Ram Ranjan Roy, is a tabla player who also worked in the government sector, and my mother is a trained singer. I hail from a musical family, and I credit my parents for my success. I wouldn’t have been here today without their support. I am a trained musician and I want to carry their legacy forward.”
