Miami: India’s Rohan Bopanna continues to perform brilliantly on the tennis court. Bopanna, along with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden, has won the men’s doubles title at Miami Open 2024. In the final match, Bopanna and Ebden defeated Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Austin Krajicek of America 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-6. Bopanna-Ebden had lost the first set, but after that both made a strong comeback and won the title.
This was the 26th men’s doubles title for 44 year old Rohan Bopanna. He won the title for the first time in Miami Open. If seen, Bopanna is the oldest player to win the ATP Masters 1000 title. Bopanna broke his own record. Bopanna had made this amazing record by winning the doubles title in Indian Wells last year.
Bopanna-Ebden had won 6-1, 6-4 over Spain’s Granollers and Argentina’s Zeballos in the semi-finals of Miami Open. In the other semi-final, Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek reached the final by defeating the German pair of Kevin Kravetz and Tim Putz 6-4 6-7(7) 10-7.
Rohan Bopanna had slipped to second place in the doubles rankings due to his defeat in the quarterfinals of the Dubai Championship and his exit from the round-32 of the Indian Wells Masters. But after the victory in Miami Open, he is going to become number-1 player again. On Monday, he will officially become number 1 in the doubles ranking. Even after the victory of Australia Open, Rohan Bopanna remained number-1. Bopanna is the oldest player to top the ATP rankings.
This was Rohan Bopanna’s 14th ATP Masters 1000 final and 63rd final at the ATP Tour level. Also, this was the fifth ATP Masters 1000 final for the pair of Bopanna and Ebden. Bopanna is the second Indian after Leander Paes to play the finals of all nine ATP Masters tournaments.
