Prayagraj: The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 is set to commence on January 13, 2025, with extensive preparations in their final stages. This year, the emphasis is on making Maha Kumbh a landmark of cleanliness, with several initiatives underway to ensure a hygienic and comfortable experience for the millions of pilgrims expected to visit.
In a review meeting held on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued key directives focusing on sanitation. He stressed the importance of adequate arrangements for sanitation workers, including housing, food, and timely payment of wages, while also prioritizing their children’s education and well-being.
Setting New World Records for Cleanliness
During the meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath recalled the government’s achievement of setting a world record for cleanliness during the 2019 Kumbh. He expressed the ambition to surpass those standards in 2025. Cleanliness and health have been declared the top priorities for the Maha Kumbh.
Work has already begun on removing construction debris, stones, and bricks from roads and pilgrim routes. Efforts are being made to clear streets of encroachments, while designated vending zones are being planned for street vendors. Regular cleaning and proper waste disposal have been mandated to ensure the entire city, not just the fairgrounds, reflects a pristine and organized appearance.
Clean Rivers, Ghats, and Pilgrim Pathways
CM Yogi directed officials to ensure the cleanliness of riverbanks, ghats, and pathways leading to the fairgrounds. The use of plastic has been strictly prohibited within the fair area, and sanitation workers are being deployed in advance to maintain hygiene throughout the event.
Additionally, the mela authority has implemented regular fogging and disinfectant spraying to minimize health risks. Strict monitoring is in place to ensure that toilet facilities remain clean and functional at all times.

Facilities for Sanitation Workers and Their Families
Recognizing the vital role of sanitation workers, the CM emphasized providing them with adequate housing, meals, and health and safety measures. To support their families, arrangements are being made for their children’s education through the Vidya Kumbh initiative, which will connect them to primary schools during the festival. Facilities like uniforms, sweaters, and mid-day meals are also being organized.
Sanitation colonies have been established with provisions for cleanliness and health services, ensuring that workers and their families are well cared for during the event.
Safety and Order: A Key Priority
Security remains a critical focus of the preparations, with officials taking measures to ensure a safe environment for the pilgrims. The fair authority is working diligently to enforce the ban on plastic and maintain order within the mela grounds.
The Maha Kumbh 2025 promises to be a milestone event, not only as a religious gathering but also as a model for cleanliness and community welfare. With robust planning and execution, Prayagraj is set to welcome millions of devotees for a spiritually uplifting and hygienic experience.
