Polish PM Donald Tusk Arrives in Bengaluru After Talks With Modi to Boost India-Poland Ties

Bengaluru: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Bengaluru on Thursday night following high-level discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors. He was received at Kempegowda International Airport by Karnataka Minister for Greater Bengaluru Development and Parliamentary Affairs Krishna Byre Gowda, along with senior state officials.

The visit underscores efforts by India and Poland to deepen economic engagement, attract investment and expand partnerships in technology, defence, energy and innovation.

Trade, Investment and Startups on the Agenda

Tusk’s arrival followed talks with Modi on giving India-Poland relations a stronger strategic and economic foundation. Both sides emphasised the need to expand bilateral trade and investment while creating fresh opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and research institutions.

The proposed StartUp Bridge initiative is aimed at connecting the startup ecosystems of the two countries, enabling emerging businesses to explore new markets and identify potential partners.

Bengaluru, a major technology and startup hub, provides an important setting for exploring collaboration in digital services, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Cooperation in Strategic Sectors

The discussions covered potential cooperation in defence manufacturing, space technology, nuclear energy and critical minerals. These sectors are increasingly significant for industrial development, technological advancement and supply-chain resilience.

Critical minerals are essential for industries such as battery manufacturing, renewable energy and advanced electronics. Greater engagement could open avenues for commercial partnerships and research collaboration, subject to further agreements and implementation.

Technology also featured prominently in the bilateral agenda, with Modi highlighting opportunities in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and innovation. The two countries explored broader engagement in education, culture, sports and tourism, which could encourage institutional partnerships and people-to-people exchanges.

March 30 to Be Observed as Poland-India Partnership Day

In a significant announcement, Tusk said March 30 would be observed annually as Poland-India Partnership Day, commemorating the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The annual observance is intended to recognise the bilateral relationship and provide opportunities for cultural programmes, business engagements and institutional exchanges.

The initiative comes as New Delhi and Warsaw seek to broaden their partnership beyond traditional diplomatic engagement and strengthen cooperation across economic and strategic fields.

Poland Sees Potential to Double Trade by 2030

Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski projected that commercial exchanges between India and Poland could double by 2030. Achieving this objective would depend on sustained trade growth, investment and stronger commercial links between businesses in both countries.

Expanding economic engagement could benefit sectors ranging from manufacturing and technology to services and research, although companies will need to navigate regulatory requirements, logistics and market-specific challenges.

Tusk also praised India’s role in international affairs, describing the country’s contribution as a “sign of hope” amid global uncertainty.

The Polish prime minister’s visit and the outcomes of his discussions with Modi reflect a shared interest in developing closer economic and strategic ties. The proposed StartUp Bridge, the annual partnership day and the ambition to double bilateral trade are among the initiatives that could shape the next phase of India-Poland cooperation. Their impact will depend on translating these commitments into concrete agreements, investment and sustained collaboration.
