Mumbai Indians’ Nat Sciver-Brunt Creates History Despite Team’s Loss in WPL 2025

Mumbai: The league stage of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 has concluded, with Mumbai Indians’ (MI) all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt delivering a stellar half-century in the final league match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Chasing a target of 200 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, Sciver-Brunt played a blistering knock of 69 runs off just 35 balls, smashing nine fours and two sixes. This was her fifth half-century of the tournament. However, despite her valiant effort, MI suffered an 11-run defeat to RCB. Nevertheless, her performance created a new milestone in WPL history.

Sciver-Brunt Breaks WPL Record

The England all-rounder has now become the first player in WPL history to score 400 runs in a single season. She has accumulated 416 runs in just eight matches at an impressive average of 69.33, surpassing the previous record held by RCB’s Ellyse Perry. Perry had scored 347 runs in WPL 2024, while in WPL 2025, she managed 372 runs but could not take RCB to the playoffs. In WPL 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Meg Lanning had topped the charts with 345 runs, while Sciver-Brunt had scored 332 runs that season.

Delhi Capitals Secure Direct Entry to Final

With this loss, Mumbai Indians missed out on a direct entry to the final. Delhi Capitals finished at the top of the table with 10 points, edging out MI, who also had 10 points, on the basis of a superior net run rate of 0.396. As a result, Delhi Capitals will play the final on March 15, while Mumbai Indians will face Gujarat Giants (GG) in the eliminator on March 13. The winner of the eliminator will take on Delhi in the grand finale.

RCB finished their WPL 2025 campaign in fourth place in the five-team standings, ending their title defense on a disappointing note after winning the championship last season.
