Lucknow: Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, Agricultural Foreign Trade and Agricultural Export, Dinesh Pratap Singh said that on the second day of the three-day Mango Festival, farmers and gardeners from various districts and citizens, public representatives visited the exhibition and observed the displays of about 800 varieties of mango.
Farmers were very excited to see the colorful varieties of mangoes like Arunika, Pusa Arunima, Ambika, Pusa Surya, Pusa Lalima, Pusa Pitambara etc. and they also tasted the mangoes after reaching the stalls. The Horticulture Minister said that the Tommy-Atkins variety of mango, which is proving to be a boon for diabetic patients, is becoming the main attraction in the Mango Festival.
Along with this, the Sensation variety of mango is attracting the people due to its color and size. Grafted plants of various high quality varieties (Mallika, Amrapali, Husne-e-Ara, Ambika, Arunima, Chaunsa, Langra, Dussehri, Ramkela etc.) were purchased by farmers and citizens from the stall. A mango eating competition was organized for children. On the second day of the Mango Festival, more than 30 thousand visitors enjoyed the exhibition.
A technical session was also conducted to provide technical information related to mango production, productivity, processing and marketing and export to gardeners and visitors. During the technical session, various experts discussed in detail about quality mango production, post harvest management of mango crop, variety conservation and crop improvement, mango horticulture in the context of climate change, importance of protected cultivation and mixed cropping in mango production, arrangement of nutrients in mango and phytosanitary standards and grading, packaging for mango export.
On the closing day of the Mango Festival, after the technical session, people who have excelled in competitions of different varieties of mango, display of processed mango products, mango dishes etc. will be awarded.
