Lucknow to Launch Ward Chaupal Campaign from June 8; Mayor Sushma Kharkwal to Personally Review Civic Issues

Lucknow: To mark the completion of 12 years of the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation will launch a citywide Ward Chaupal Campaign from June 8, 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen citizen engagement, address civic grievances, and enhance public awareness about welfare and development initiatives.

Under the campaign, ward-level public interaction meetings will be conducted across all 110 municipal wards in a phased manner. Two wards will host chaupals each day, where residents will have the opportunity to directly present their concerns before elected representatives and municipal officials.

Mayor Sushma Kharkwal said that the campaign is designed to provide on-the-spot solutions to issues related to property tax, sanitation, street lighting, drinking water supply, sewerage, and other essential civic services. She added that councillors, Additional Municipal Commissioners, engineers, departmental officers, and representatives of implementing agencies will be required to attend the chaupals and ensure prompt action on public grievances.

The Ward Chaupal Campaign will commence on June 8 in Zone 4, covering Paper Mill Colony Ward and Rajiv Gandhi First Ward. Subsequent chaupals will be organized across different zones according to a pre-announced schedule.

The campaign schedule includes:

  • June 8 (Zone 4): Paper Mill Colony Ward and Rajiv Gandhi First Ward
  • June 9 (Zone 1): Rani Lakshmi Bai Ward and J.C. Bose Ward
  • June 10 (Zone 2): Tilak Nagar Kundri Rakabganj Ward and Aishbagh Ward
  • June 11 (Zone 3): Vivekanand Puri Ward and Aliganj Ward
  • June 12 (Zone 5): Sarojini Nagar First Ward and Sarojini Nagar Second Ward
  • June 13 (Zone 6): Kalyan Singh Ward and Lalji Tandon Ward
  • June 15 (Zone 7): Shankarpurwa First Ward and Lal Bahadur Shastri First Ward
  • June 16 (Zone 8): Hind Nagar Ward and Vidyawati Second Ward

The Mayor has directed municipal officials to ensure that complaints received during the chaupals are addressed on a priority basis. She also instructed all concerned departments and implementing agencies to maintain timely attendance and active participation throughout the campaign.

Municipal authorities believe the initiative will serve as an effective platform for direct interaction between citizens and the administration, helping improve service delivery and strengthen accountability at the grassroots level. By bringing governance closer to residents, the Ward Chaupal Campaign is expected to facilitate quicker resolution of civic issues and contribute to more responsive urban administration across Lucknow.
