Lucknow Police Crack Purse Snatching and Robbery Cases, Arrest One Snatcher

Lucknow: In a joint operation, the Itaunja Police and the DCP North Crime Surveillance Team successfully solved a purse-snatching case and uncovered a series of robberies. The authorities arrested a key accused, Pankaj Shukla (21), while his accomplice, Shubham Shukla, is already in jail for a similar offense.

The Incident

On January 12, a woman was targeted by unidentified bikers who snatched her purse while she was on her way home. The victim’s husband, Amitesh Kumar, a resident of Patara Kalan village in Sitapur district, lodged an FIR at Itaunja Police Station under case number 03/2025, invoking sections 304(2)/317(2) of the BNS Act.

Arrest and Seizure

Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended the accused, Pankaj Shukla, near Madhavpur Road. The police recovered the following items from him:

  • One earring (yellow metal)
  • Two rings (white metal)
  • ₹2,150 cash
  • A scooter (Registration No: UP32NY7450)

Confession of the Accused

During interrogation, Pankaj admitted to committing multiple snatching and robbery incidents with his elder brother, Shubham Shukla. Notable revelations include:

  • Three months ago, the duo snatched gold earrings from a woman in the BKT area, selling them for ₹5,000.
  • A week ago, they snatched a purse near Itaunja Toll Plaza, which contained the recovered jewelry and cash.

Pankaj also confessed to spending the stolen cash on intoxicants and fuel for the scooter.

Accomplice Already in Jail

Shubham Shukla, Pankaj’s brother and accomplice, was arrested two days ago in Barabanki for another snatching incident and is currently incarcerated.

Pankaj Shukla has a criminal record with multiple cases registered against him:

  1. Case No. 003/25, Sections 304(2)/317(2) BNS, Itaunja Police Station
  2. Case No. 306/24, Sections 304(2)/317(2) BNS, BKT Police Station
  3. Case No. 199/24, Section 3(1) UP Gangsters Act, PGI Police Station
  4. Additional cases in PGI, Gosainganj, and Chinhat Police Stations.

Police Action

The scooter used in the crimes was seized under Section 207 of the MV Act. Police ensured compliance with human rights and judicial directives during the arrest and recovery process. The accused has been presented in court, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The Itaunja Police and DCP North Crime Surveillance Team have been lauded for their efforts in solving the case. Investigations are ongoing to identify the accused’s involvement in other criminal activities.
