Mumbai: Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated L2: Empuraan has set a new benchmark, becoming the biggest Indian film opening of 2025 with a Rs 165 crore worldwide collection in its first weekend. The Malayalam blockbuster surpassed Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which held the previous record with Rs160 crore.
The film, starring Mohanlal, has performed exceptionally well internationally, earning Rs18 crore in the US alone. Despite competition from Sikandar, Veera Dheera Sooran, and Robinhood, L2: Empuraan remains the top choice for audiences, praised for its gripping action and storytelling.
Meanwhile, Chhaava, produced by Maddock Films, continues its strong theatrical run. The historical epic, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, has grossed Rs 705.75 crore over seven weeks. While L2: Empuraan dominates the box office, Chhaava maintains its solid earnings, proving its staying power amid tough competition.
