Dibrugarh: The suspense over Khalistani supporter Amritpal Singh, lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail, contesting the Lok Sabha elections is now over. There is news that Amritpal Singh is preparing to contest elections from Khadur Sahib as an independent candidate. His lawyer and former MP Rajdev Singh has officially announced that Amritpal Singh will contest the elections.
Amritpal Singh’s lawyer said, “Many people in jail have contested elections earlier also. He told that Amritpal will contest elections from Khadur Saheb. He will contest the elections not from any party but as an independent candidate. People of all religions will support him fully. Undoubtedly, Amritpal will win the election.” He further said, “Punjab government had imposed NSA against Amritpal. He will give a befitting reply to this by winning the Lok Sabha elections.
Mother confirmed to contest elections
Now Amritpal’s mother has given a big statement regarding his contesting the elections. In an interview with a news agency, Amritpal’s mother Balwinder Kaur herself has approved his contesting the elections. He announced that Amritpal Singh was not in favor of contesting the elections, but now considering the ‘situation’ he has to do so. Amritpal Singh can contest elections from Khadur Sahib as an independent candidate.
Campaign was launched regarding Khalistani movement
It is noteworthy that last year Amritpal had launched a big campaign regarding the Khalistani movement. Many people abroad had openly supported Amritpal. After this, the police and investigation agency came into action and after several days of search, he was arrested from Assam and sent to jail. Keeping in mind the serious allegations against him, NSA was also imposed against him. Punjab Police described Amritpal’s arrest as a major success for itself.
