Indian Railways’ New Facility: Now Transfer Your Confirmed Ticket to a Relative

New Delhi: If you have reserved a train ticket but can no longer travel for some reason, Indian Railways now allows you to transfer your confirmed ticket to a relative. This means your ticket can be transferred to a family member, enabling them to travel in your place. However, this facility comes with specific rules and conditions that must be followed.

What Do the Railway Rules Say?

According to railway regulations, if a passenger has a confirmed train ticket but is unable to travel, they can transfer the ticket to an immediate family member. This facility is applicable only to close family members, including father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, or daughter. To complete this process, the passenger must contact railway authorities in advance.

Process for Ticket Transfer

To transfer a ticket, passengers must submit a transfer request at the railway reservation counter at least 24 hours before the train’s departure. If the request is made within 24 hours of departure, it will not be accepted.

Required Documents

To initiate the ticket transfer process, the passenger must visit the railway reservation counter with their confirmed reservation ticket. Additionally, they need to provide a printout of the electronic reservation slip, a valid ID proof of the relative to whom the ticket is being transferred, and proof of relationship (such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate). A written application for ticket transfer must also be submitted, and railway staff will assist in completing the process.

Special Cases for Ticket Transfers

In certain special cases, ticket transfers are also permitted. If the traveler is a government employee and is unable to travel due to duty commitments, their ticket can be transferred with proper authorization from the concerned authority. Similarly, if a student from a recognized educational institution has booked a ticket and is unable to travel, the reservation can be transferred to another student from the same institution if a written request is made by the institution’s head at least 48 hours before departure.

By following the above-mentioned process, passengers can easily transfer their train tickets to eligible family members, ensuring their seat does not go unused.
