Increase in Uttar Pradesh Police Budget

171% Increase Since 2017, 24% Growth Over Last Year

Lucknow – The Uttar Pradesh government has significantly increased the budget for the state’s police force, marking a 171% rise compared to 2017 and a 24% increase over the previous year. This boost aims to enhance the morale and efficiency of the police force while strengthening law enforcement infrastructure.

One of the key highlights of the budget is the establishment of a ₹200 crore corpus fund for the maintenance of over 200 multi-storey police accommodations and office buildings, including elevators, generators, and water treatment plants (STP, WTP). This initiative, envisioned by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, sets a precedent for other states and reflects his long-term vision for police welfare.

Police Welfare & Financial Provisions

The budget fulfills the Chief Minister’s announcements made on Police Remembrance Day, addressing allowances such as uniform grants, separation allowances, corpus funds, and financial aid for the families of martyred officers. Notably, there is an astonishing 1,428% increase in the sports fund, aimed at fostering a spirit of competition and fitness within the police force.

To accommodate new police recruitments, the establishment fund has seen a 55% rise since 2017. Additionally, there is a 255% increase in travel allowances, with ₹1,000 crore allocated to ease financial burdens on police personnel.

Training & Operational Efficiency

Recognizing the importance of advanced training, the government has made a 190% increase in the training budget compared to 2017. This ensures that over 60,000 new police trainees receive nine months of intensive training, improving overall law enforcement capabilities.

For enhanced mobility and operational efficiency, the budget includes a 270% increase in vehicle procurement since 2017. Additionally, a historic 12,519% surge in material and supplies funding has been approved, streamlining the purchase of essential equipment such as bulletproof jackets, helmets, and anti-riot gear. This move makes Uttar Pradesh the first state in India to simplify the procurement process for modern police equipment.

Focus on Green Energy & Sustainability

For the first time, the budget includes provisions for solar energy in police operations. Under the RESCO model, all police units will implement tariff-based power purchase agreements to encourage green and clean energy adoption within the force.

Commitment to Excellence

The substantial increase in the police budget reaffirms the state government’s commitment to modernizing law enforcement, ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability. This initiative not only strengthens Uttar Pradesh Police but also supports the state’s infrastructure, green energy goals, and tourism development.

On behalf of the entire police force, Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his unwavering trust and support in enhancing law enforcement in the state.
