Fourth Mumbai Open WTA 125K series tournament will be held in February by MSLTA and CCI

Mumbai: The fourth edition of the Mumbai Open, hosted by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) and organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), promises to be an exciting event, showcasing talented players from across the globe. The qualifying round will kick off on February 1st, with the main draw starting on February 3rd and the finals scheduled for February 9th at the CCI courts.

Top-ranked players like Tatjana Maria, ranked 89th globally, will compete in the WTA 125 competition. Maria, who reached a Wimbledon semi-final in 2022, is aiming for her fourth singles title. Alongside her, Canada’s Rebecca Marino, ranked 98th, will also be vying for her second WTA singles championship after a career-high world No. 38 ranking in 2011. Spanish player Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, ranked 104th, will also make her mark at the tournament after a strong start to 2024.

Latvia’s Darja Semenistaja, the defending champion, returns to the Mumbai Open after her 2024 victory, where she triumphed over Storm Hunter. British player Harriet Dart, currently ranked 113th, is eyeing her first WTA 125 title. Rising stars like Alexandra Eala, ranked 138th, and Petra Marcinko, a former Australian junior doubles champion, will also be part of the exciting field.

Jil Teichmann, ranked 133rd, and Kristina Mladenovic, a former world No. 1 in doubles, will add further excitement to the competition. Mladenovic, who was once ranked 10th in singles, aims to improve her ranking in this prestigious event.

The tournament’s organizers, including IAS officials Sanjay Khandare and Pravin Darade, are looking forward to thrilling matches. They expressed their excitement for the return of the L&T Mumbai Open, which has become a major event in the city. The tournament promises to provide Mumbai’s tennis fans with an action-packed week.

After a six-year hiatus, the Mumbai Open made a successful return in 2024, and with players like Sabalenka (2017) and Kumkhum (2018) among the past singles winners, the fourth edition is set to live up to the high expectations.
