Lucknow: Bhatkhande Sanskriti University, Lucknow, organised a special awareness programme on de-addiction and mental health as part of the 100-week anti-drug campaign being conducted on the directions of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Prof. Nisha Mani Pandey, Professor in the Department of Geriatric Mental Health at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, and Research Cell Nodal Expert, addressed students as the keynote expert.
The programme began with a welcome address by coordinator Dr Gyan Singh Patel. Prof. Pandey subsequently discussed various aspects of addiction and mental health, highlighting the physical, psychological, social and family-related consequences of substance abuse.
Referring to the Sanskrit maxim, “Sahityasangeetakalavihinah Sakshat Pashuh,” she underlined the importance of literature, music and art in developing sensitivity, creativity and human values. She said creative pursuits such as music and the arts can help channel young people’s energy in positive directions.
Prof. Pandey urged students to stay away from substance abuse, cultivate positive thinking and engage in constructive activities. She also encouraged them to spread awareness about de-addiction among their families, friends and communities.
The programme was moderated by Anjani Kumar Dubey. Department Heads Dr Manoj Kumar Mishra and Gyanendra Dutt Bajpai, guest faculty members and students attended the event. Dr Patel coordinated the programme.
