Bareilly: Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission member Ram Chandra Kunde directed officials to ensure that eligible beneficiaries from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes receive the benefits of government welfare schemes on priority and without unnecessary difficulties.
Kunde chaired a review meeting at the Circuit House auditorium on September 30 to assess the progress of welfare schemes implemented by various departments and matters concerning SC/ST communities.
Officials briefed him on the department-wise progress of schemes, the status of benefits reaching eligible beneficiaries and the disposal of public grievances. The District Social Welfare Officer said eligible women were being continuously covered under the Destitute Women Pension Scheme. The Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme is scheduled to be organised in October, while no application from an SC/ST beneficiary under the National Family Benefit Scheme is pending.
Kunde also reviewed cases involving encroachment or illegal occupation of land belonging to SC/ST persons. He directed officials to take prompt action according to law and ensure that illegally occupied land is freed from encroachment. He stressed that such cases should be handled sensitively and effectively.
During the review of police-related matters, officials reported that 62 cases registered with the Commission had been received so far in 2026, of which 58 had been disposed of. Kunde directed police officials to hear every complainant’s grievance on priority and ensure timely action according to the nature of each case.
The meeting also reviewed SC/ST participation in the Chief Minister’s Youth Entrepreneur Development Campaign/Scheme, the condition of sanitation workers in rural areas, cleanliness in urban local bodies, road repairs and widening, the quality of education in government schools, the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and basic school facilities.
Kunde directed officials to ensure 100 per cent enrolment of all eligible SC/ST children in schools and provide them with quality education in a clean and safe environment. He also stressed regular monitoring of mid-day meal quality, sanitation and other facilities.
He said the government’s objective was to ensure that welfare schemes reach every eligible person and instructed officials to work with sensitivity, transparency and accountability.
Officials from social welfare, municipal health, urban local bodies, police, health, basic education and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
