Efforts to stem model code violations continue on a war footing

Lucknow: Chief Electoral Officer of the state,  Navdeep Rinwa said that with the announcement of the election dates of Lok Sabha General Election-2024 by the Election Commission of India on March 16, 2024, there is a need to conduct free, fair, peaceful, fear-free, inducement-free, inclusive and safe voting in the state. Model code of conduct is applicable in the entire state.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that action is being taken by Police, Income Tax, Excise, Narcotics and other departments in effective compliance of the Model Code of Conduct. For intensive checking, 513 inter-state check posts and 1846 check posts have been operated within the state.

Till now 4,22,330 licensed weapons have been deposited by the police department. Apart from this, 310 licensed weapons of criminal persons were seized. 3,756 licensed weapons were canceled and deposited. Similarly, 11,62,965 people were banned by taking preventive action under CrPC. Apart from this, 2,276 unlicensed illegal weapons, 2,480 cartridges, 06 kg explosives and 110 bombs were recovered and seized by the police department. Police raided 406 centers manufacturing illegal weapons and 55 centers were seized.

In compliance with the Model Code of Conduct, 21,768 licensed weapons were deposited by the Police Department on March 27. 12 licensed weapons of criminal persons were confiscated. 08 licensed weapons were canceled and deposited. Taking preventive action under CrPC, 73,522 people were banned. Besides, 119 unlicensed illegal weapons, 171 cartridges and 14 bombs were recovered and seized. Police raided 33 centers manufacturing illegal weapons and 01 center was seized.
