Kolkata: ED has raided the residence of West Bengal Cabinet Minister Chandra Nath Sinha and seized Rs 40 lakh cash from there. According to ED sources, the minister could not tell the source of the cash. To collect evidence, ED has also confiscated his mobile phone.

In the teacher recruitment scam case, on Friday, ED had raided many places including the residence of Minister Chandanath Sinha in Bolpur, Birbhum. The marathon raid and interrogation lasted for about 13 hours and ended around 10.30 pm. The ED team entered Chandra Nath Sinha’s residence at around 9 am on Friday.

According to ED sources, ED had recovered a register from TMC Youth Wing leader Kuntal Ghosh. From that register he got the name of Chandra Nath Sinha. Kuntal Ghosh was earlier arrested by ED in the teacher recruitment scam.

What is the whole matter?

Following the order passed by the Calcutta High Court, both ED and CBI agencies are investigating the alleged irregularities in teacher recruitment. Prasanna Roy’s name had come up during the investigation, after which in December last year, the Enforcement Directorate had raided the houses and offices of chartered accountants, businessmen and others in Kolkata in the teacher recruitment scam case. In the same case, accused former education minister Partha Chatterjee and many Trinamool Congress leaders and officials of the state education department are in jail.
