Ahilyanagar (Maharashtra): In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence modernisation efforts, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Saturday ceremonially flagged off its advanced armoured platform series, Vikram VT-21, at Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra.
The event was presided over by DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat, who formally launched the next-generation armoured vehicles designed to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
The Vikram VT-21 series includes both tracked and wheeled platforms, engineered to deliver superior mobility, enhanced protection, and increased firepower across a wide range of terrains. Defence officials indicated that the platforms are tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern mechanised warfare, offering flexibility and adaptability in diverse battlefield conditions.
The induction of these advanced systems is expected to significantly strengthen India’s armoured corps, providing a technological edge in mobility and survivability. The development also reflects DRDO’s continued focus on designing and delivering cutting-edge, mission-critical systems for the military.
The ceremony highlighted India’s growing emphasis on self-reliance in defence production, in line with the government’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Officials noted that platforms like Vikram VT-21 are a testament to the country’s expanding capabilities in indigenous defence manufacturing.
