Dr Sanjay Kapoor Reappointed Chairman of UP T20 League

Lucknow: Dr Sanjay Kapoor of Kanpur has been reappointed chairman of the Uttar Pradesh T20 League for a second consecutive term at the 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).

The AGM was held at a five-star hotel in Kanpur on Wednesday. Sanjeev Kumar Singh of Ghazipur was also re-elected to the Governing Council. Four directors—Abhishek Singhania, Ashok Chaturvedi, Riyazat Ali and Pradeep Kumar Gupta—were reappointed after completing their terms.

With only two nominations for two Governing Council positions, both candidates were elected unopposed. The UPCA president and secretary were also authorised to take final decisions regarding all committees.

After the AGM, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla announced the appointment of former judge Vineet Saran as UPCA Ombudsman and Krishna Murari as Ethics Officer.

Shukla said the new UPCA stadium being developed in Varanasi is expected to host domestic cricket matches soon. Local-level matches will first be conducted to assess the pitch and ground conditions.

He added that the Kashi Stadium has been listed as an alternative venue, along with Baroda, for hosting matches of next year’s Women’s Premier League (WPL), subject to the stadium being fully ready.

Regarding Kanpur, Shukla said UPCA is preparing to sign an MoU with the new stadium being developed at CSJMU, following the expiry of the Kamla Club lease and commencement of redevelopment work at Green Park Stadium.

Congratulating Dr Sanjay Kapoor on the successful fourth season of the UP T20 League, Shukla said the two-city format would continue in the fifth season. The Governing Council may also consider expanding the league to eight teams.
