Disaster Mitigation discussed threadbare

Lucknow: A comprehensive Table Top Exercise on Disaster Management was organized by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India at Indian Army Central Command Headquarters, Lucknow. The main objective of the event was to bring together all the stakeholders, mainly officials of the Central Ministry, National Institute of Disaster Management, early warning agencies and disaster management authorities of the four disaster affected states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. General Syed Ata Hasnain PVSM, UYSM, AVASM, SM, VSM and Bar (Retd) spoke at the PICUP Bhawan.

He said that organizing this exercise will provide an opportunity to discuss the technologies available in the field of disaster management and understand the roles and responsibilities of key disaster managers in emergency situations.

On this occasion, Vice President of the State Disaster Management Authority, Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri said the recent Uttarkashi tunnel rescue operation and the wildfires that spread across the states of Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh further underline this urgency.

Apart from this, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), SDMA, Revenue Departments of the mentioned four states, India Meteorological Department (IMD), National Remote Sensing Center (NRSC) and National Center for Seismology (NCS), Central Water Commission ( Early warning agencies like CWC) and Geological Survey of India (GSI) participated.
