Cameron Diaz Open to Starring in “The Mask” Sequel if Jim Carrey Returns

Washington: Cameron Diaz, who made a highly anticipated return to the big screen in Back in Action after a decade-long break, has expressed her openness to reprising her iconic role as Tina Carlyle in a potential The Mask sequel.

The 1994 superhero comedy, which catapulted Diaz into fame, also featured Jim Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss, the mild-mannered man who transforms into the titular character. Diaz recently shared her enthusiasm for revisiting the role, but emphasized that she would only do so if Carrey is also involved. Speaking to Access Hollywood, Diaz revealed, “If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one.”

Carrey, who starred in The Mask, has previously shown interest in revisiting the role. During an interview with Comicbook.com, Carrey indicated that he would be open to a sequel, provided the right concept came along. “The money isn’t the main factor,” he remarked. “I believe I was talking more about power-resting when I said that I would prefer to retire. But if the right idea comes, things just change.”

In addition to a The Mask sequel, Diaz also expressed her eagerness to work with her Charlie’s Angels co-stars Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore on another installment of the beloved franchise. “It would be fantastic. It would be very incredible,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx, her co-star in Back in Action, hinted at a reunion with the Charlie’s Angels team, saying he would be thrilled to take on the role of John, originally played by Bill Murray in the 2000 film. Diaz humorously responded, “I’m going to text (Lucy) right now and pitch her Jamie as Bosley.”

While the possibility of The Mask and Charlie’s Angels sequels has fans excited, Diaz recently made it clear that she has no plans to return to romantic comedies, stating that she would never do another one.
