Gelephu: In a symbolic gesture highlighting the close relationship between India and Bhutan, the Himalayan kingdom has dedicated Stupa Number 76 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognising his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.
The dedication took place during a major religious consecration ceremony at Gelephu Mindfulness City. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju represented India at the event and conveyed gratitude for the honour, while also communicating Prime Minister Modi’s appreciation to Bhutan’s King.
The ceremony was held on the auspicious occasion of Lhabab Duchen, an important festival in the Buddhist calendar. A total of 108 stupas, each measuring 15 metres in height, were consecrated along an 11.7-kilometre stretch of the Aie River, also known as the Mau River.
The initiative, conceived and guided by the King of Bhutan, involved the participation of thousands of volunteers. It is part of Bhutan’s broader vision to develop Gelephu Mindfulness City as a centre combining spiritual traditions, cultural heritage and sustainable development.
