In the final of the Big Bash League 2024-25, Hobart Hurricanes defeated Sydney Thunder by 7 wickets to claim their first-ever BBL title. Sydney Thunder, after losing the toss, batted first and scored 182/7 in their 20 overs. In reply, Hobart Hurricanes chased down the target in just 14.1 overs, thanks to a stunning century by Mitchell Owen.

This victory marks Hobart Hurricanes’ first BBL title in 14 years.

Sydney Thunder’s Strong Start Sydney Thunder had a solid start to the match, with Jason Sangha and captain David Warner putting on a 97-run partnership for the first wicket. Warner made 48 off 32 balls before being caught in the 11th over. In the very next ball, Matthew Gilkes was dismissed for a golden duck. At a score of 134, the team lost their third wicket.

Wicketkeeper Sam Billings contributed with 20 runs off 14 balls. Jason Sangha went on to score a half-century before being caught off Ben. He made 67 runs off 42 balls. In the 19th over, Oliver Davies was dismissed for 26 runs off 19 balls. George Garton was also out for a golden duck, and Chris Green was run out for 16 runs off 9 balls. Nathan McAndrew remained not out at 2 runs from 2 balls.

Mitchell Owen’s Explosive Century Hobart Hurricanes chased down the target of 183 runs with 35 balls to spare. The star of the chase was opener Mitchell Owen, who blasted a rapid century in just 39 balls, making it the joint-fastest century in BBL history.
