Lucknow: Lucknow Police have arrested a 28-year-old Bangladeshi national for allegedly overstaying in India and obtaining Indian identity documents using forged records. A local Common Service Centre operator, identified as Mohammed Talha, 40, has also been arrested for allegedly helping him procure the documents.
Police said the accused, Mohammed Sajjad Hussain, originally from Hathazari Rahimpur in Chattogram, was found living with a woman in the Bhadeva area. He was allegedly carrying two Bangladeshi passports along with counterfeit Aadhaar, PAN and voter identity cards. Two mobile phones and other documents were also recovered.
According to investigators, Sajjad had entered Lucknow from Saudi Arabia on a tourist visa in 2023. During questioning, he reportedly told police that he had first met the Lucknow woman online in 2018 while playing PUBG. Their friendship allegedly developed through regular conversations, WhatsApp calls and chats, eventually leading to a relationship.
Police said Sajjad subsequently travelled to India to meet the woman and later married her through a court marriage before settling in Bhadeva.
Investigators allege that Sajjad approached Talha to obtain documents that would enable him to remain in India and open a bank account. Talha allegedly arranged forged birth and residence certificates, which were then used to obtain an Aadhaar card, followed by PAN and voter identity documents. Police claim Sajjad paid Talha around ₹15,000 in several instalments for the documents.
The arrests followed intelligence inputs about a Bangladeshi national allegedly residing with a woman at Nasirullah Apartment in Bhadeva. Police said the accused used the purported Indian documents to obtain a bank account and mobile SIM.
A case has been registered against both accused under relevant legal provisions. Intelligence officials have also questioned them as part of the investigation.
