Arvind Ltd Sets Up ₹150-Crore Textile Unit in Varanasi, to Generate 1,000 Jobs

Lucknow: Ahmedabad-based textile major Arvind Ltd has established a state-of-the-art manufacturing unit in Varanasi with an investment of ₹150 crore, creating the potential for around 1,000 employment opportunities. Spread across six acres in Khochawan, the facility was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The project is being seen as a significant boost to textile and garment manufacturing in Varanasi and the wider Purvanchal region. The unit will manufacture sportswear and innerwear for leading international brands.

More than 300 women have already been recruited and their training has commenced, marking an important step towards increasing women’s participation in the industrial workforce.

The project received all major statutory clearances and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) within just 21 days, with Invest UP playing a key role through investor assistance and coordination among various government departments.

Invest UP facilitated coordination between the company, Varanasi district administration and concerned departments to expedite regulatory procedures and resolve pending issues. The district administration supported the project in addressing land-related matters, securing permission under Section 80 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code and obtaining groundwater clearance.

Major approvals secured within the stipulated period included Consent to Establish and Consent to Operate from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, fire and groundwater NOCs, factory registration from the Labour Department and building map approval from the Varanasi District Panchayat.

The investment reflects Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem through improved infrastructure, streamlined clearances and investor-friendly policies. With over 36 sector-specific policies and dedicated investment facilitation mechanisms, the state is seeking to attract fresh industrial investments, generate local employment and advance its ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy.
