Raebareli: The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raebareli, successfully organised the EAGLE (Every Aspiring Gynaecologist Learn Endoscopy) live laparoscopic surgery workshop in collaboration with the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and the Indian Association of Gynaecological Endoscopists (IAGE). The programme was designed to provide postgraduate students and practising gynaecologists with hands-on exposure to advanced endoscopic surgical techniques.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.) Amita Jain, Executive Director of AIIMS Raebareli, who highlighted the growing importance of laparoscopic surgery in modern gynaecological care. She noted that minimally invasive procedures offer significant benefits, including smaller incisions, reduced post-operative pain, faster recovery and shorter hospital stays. She encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity by learning from experienced surgeons and engaging in practical discussions.
The live surgical sessions were led by renowned laparoscopic surgeon Dr. Sonu Singh from Lucknow, who demonstrated several complex procedures, including laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis, ovarian endometrioma, and laparoscopic myomectomy for large uterine fibroids. Participants observed the surgeries in real time and interacted directly with the operating surgeon, gaining valuable insights into surgical planning, instrument handling, intra-operative decision-making and the management of potential complications.
The workshop was organised under the guidance of Dr. Parul Sinha, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who emphasised the importance of structured training in gynaecological endoscopy. She said such academic initiatives bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, helping young specialists enhance their surgical proficiency and improve patient outcomes.
The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Neeraj Srivastava, Additional Medical Superintendent; Colonel Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Director (Administration); and Colonel U. N. Rai, Financial Advisor. The dignitaries commended the department for organising a national-level academic programme and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to strengthening medical education and advanced surgical training.
Around 30 postgraduate residents and practising gynaecologists participated in the workshop. The attendees described the live demonstrations, interactive discussions and expert guidance as highly valuable, noting that the programme significantly enhanced their understanding of advanced laparoscopic techniques and their practical application in clinical practice.
