Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government’s Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana is providing financial assistance to underprivileged families for the marriage of their daughters, with 28,438 couples having tied the knot under the scheme so far in the 2026-27 financial year.
The state government has set a target of facilitating marriages for 72,540 couples during the current financial year. According to R.P. Singh, Joint Director and Scheme Officer in the Social Welfare Department, the scheme has received 1,15,658 applications across Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 34,654 applications have been approved, while 11,540 have been found ineligible during scrutiny.
Hardoi Leads Districts
Hardoi has recorded the highest number of marriages under the scheme, with 1,385 couples, followed by Sitapur with 1,335. Azamgarh has reported 1,242 marriages, while Pilibhit has recorded 1,271, according to the department.
Digital Verification to Ensure Transparency

The department is using e-KYC to verify applicants and the e-District portal to digitally authenticate income and caste certificates. An Aadhaar-based payment system is also being used to transfer financial assistance directly into the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries.
₹1 Lakh Assistance for Every Couple
Under the scheme, financial assistance worth ₹1 lakh is provided for each couple’s marriage. Of this amount, ₹64,000 is transferred to the bride’s bank account to help establish her household, ₹21,000 is allocated for wedding gifts and household items, and ₹15,000 is spent on essential arrangements for the marriage ceremony.
The scheme aims to ease the financial burden on economically disadvantaged families and help them organise their daughters’ weddings with dignity. Through collective marriage ceremonies and direct financial support, the government seeks to extend assistance to eligible families across the state.
