Bareilly: An orientation programme for newly admitted students was organised at the Savitri Government Women’s Hostel of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, to familiarise them with the university’s academic culture, administrative functioning and hostel facilities, rules and regulations.
The programme was organised under the guidance and patronage of Vice-Chancellor Acharya (Dr) Anil Kumar Rai. The event began with a Saraswati Vandana, followed by an interactive introduction session in which the newly admitted students introduced themselves and interacted with one another.
Addressing the students through his message, Vice-Chancellor Acharya (Dr) Anil Kumar Rai said a university is not merely a place to obtain a degree but an important platform for personality development, knowledge acquisition, discipline, self-reliance and leadership.
He encouraged the newly admitted students to set clear goals and move forward with confidence. He also urged them to actively participate not only in academic activities but also in cultural, sports, literary and creative programmes. In the era of science, technology and innovation, he said, students can make meaningful contributions to the development of both the university and the country by making full use of their talent and capabilities.
University Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh urged the students to follow the rules of the university and hostel in a disciplined manner and communicate their concerns to the concerned authorities. He said ensuring the timely and sensitive resolution of students’ problems remains a priority for the university administration.
Hostel Warden Dr Jyoti Pandey welcomed the newly admitted students and said the hostel was not merely a place to live but a centre for the overall development of students in a safe, disciplined, clean and positive environment. She said ensuring the safety, convenience and study-friendly environment of the students was the top priority of the hostel administration.
Dr Pandey briefed the students about various hostel rules and procedures, with particular emphasis on punctuality, prescribed entry and exit timings, compliance with the gate-pass system and mandatory entries in the arrival and departure register. She also explained the procedure for recording complaints in the problem register, visitor regulations and prescribed security protocols.
The warden appealed to the students to maintain discipline, decorum, mutual cooperation and a cordial atmosphere within the hostel. She also stressed the importance of cleanliness in common areas, the campus, dining hall and rooms, and urged students to protect hostel property and facilities and immediately report any damage to the concerned authorities.
Students were also informed about the safe and responsible use of available resources and the hostel’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging, misbehaviour and any form of indiscipline. They were encouraged to immediately inform hostel staff about any such incident and to treat fellow students with respect, cooperation and sensitivity.
The students were told that hostel rules were not intended to impose unnecessary restrictions but to ensure a safe, clean, disciplined, harmonious and study-friendly environment.
The orientation programme also featured a series of cultural performances by the students. Aditi, Mahi and Nancy presented a dance performance, while Tanu, Garima, Gunjan and Khyati enthralled the audience with melodious songs. Bhoomi and Gunjan presented an original poem. Satyasakshi conducted the programme.
The event was supported by Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare Professor Vinay Rishiwal, Warden Dr Jyoti Pandey and hostel staff members Meena Pandey, Neelakshi and Rakhi, along with students including Bhoomi, Nancy, Satyasakshi, Neha, Manisha, Khushi, Mahi, Vaishnavi, Aditi, Tanu, Gunjan, Komal, Garima, Amrita, Tanisha, Chandraprabha and Priyanka.
The programme concluded with an interactive session between the students and hostel administration. The newly admitted students raised questions and shared their queries regarding hostel facilities, rules and procedures, which were addressed by the administration with appropriate guidance and clarification.
