Gonda Police Arrest Chain Snatching Accused Within Four Days, Recover Bike Used in Crime

Gonda: Gonda’s Kotwali Dehat Police have arrested a man accused of snatching a gold chain from a woman travelling in an auto-rickshaw and recovered the motorcycle used in the crime, along with cash allegedly linked to the offence.

According to police, the incident took place on July 16, when Jyoti Gupta, a resident of Dariyapur Chaubey, was returning home in an auto-rickshaw with her nephew, Guddu. At around 2:30 pm, near Jhingur Purwa Mod, two men riding an Apache motorcycle allegedly intercepted the vehicle and snatched the gold chain with a pendant from her neck before fleeing the spot.

Police said the accused also allegedly snatched a mobile phone belonging to Sheela Devi, a resident of Tulsipur, during the same incident.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Kotwali Dehat Police registered a case under the relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.

To identify the culprits, investigators examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby locations. Based on technical evidence and surveillance, police arrested Uwais, son of Hasan Ahmad, a resident of the Mewatiyan locality under Kotwali Nagar police station limits.

During the arrest, police recovered the Apache motorcycle allegedly used in the crime and ₹8,700 in cash from the accused’s possession. He was subsequently produced before a court after completion of the required legal formalities.

Police said efforts are underway to trace the other accused involved in the incident and recover the stolen valuables.

The operation was carried out by Kotwali Dehat Police under the direction of Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal, with supervision from Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Ajit Kumar Rajak and Circle Officer (City) Yogendra Singh, as part of the district’s ongoing campaign against crime.
