Mumbai: With audiences embracing diverse content across theatres and OTT, Vasudha actor Parichay Sharma believes that what truly makes a role memorable is not its length but its purpose. The actor says he has always been drawn to characters that add value to a story and leave a lasting impression, regardless of their screen time.
Talking about the kind of roles he chooses, Parichay says he first looks at how important the character is to the narrative. “For me, the most important thing is that the character should be well-written and have a clear purpose. Even if it’s a small role, it can leave a strong impact if it contributes meaningfully to the story. I always want to know why the character exists, what they want, and what motivates them, even if they are playing a negative role,” he says.
The actor also believes social media has become a powerful platform for performers to showcase their versatility and break free from stereotypes. Recalling his own experience with comedy, he says he thoroughly enjoyed exploring the genre after getting the opportunity to work on a comedy project for Zee. “Actors often get typecast once they become successful in a particular genre. Social media gives us the chance to create different kinds of performances and show casting directors that we are capable of much more than what people have seen on screen,” he adds.

Sharing his views on the changing viewing habits of audiences, Parichay feels OTT has become the preferred destination for content-driven stories, while theatres are increasingly associated with larger-than-life spectacles. “When people spend money to watch a film in cinemas, they usually expect a grand experience. At the same time, OTT has created a dedicated audience for realistic and experimental stories, which is why many such films perform better on digital platforms,” he explains.
When it comes to his personal viewing choices, the actor says he enjoys both entertaining and thought-provoking cinema. “People already deal with enough stress in their daily lives, so it’s natural that they want to watch something light and enjoyable in theatres. At the same time, I also love meaningful films and dark comedies. For me, good cinema is good cinema, irrespective of the genre. If a story is honest and well-told, I will always enjoy watching it,” he adds
