Gonda: In a decisive move to curb rising road accidents and chronic traffic congestion, the Gonda district administration, in coordination with the National Highways Division of Lucknow, has launched a comprehensive safety campaign. Directives have been officially issued to permanently seal 17 hazardous illegal median cuts spanning key stretches of the Gonda-Lucknow and Gonda-Balrampur highways.
An intensive joint inspection conducted by the Transport Department and the Traffic Police meticulously identified these unauthorized openings along the high-traffic corridor from Choupal Sagar to the Badgaon intersection. Authorities noted that these unauthorized cuts have been a primary trigger for frequent, severe collisions and regular traffic gridlocks, primarily caused by motorists recklessly driving in the wrong direction to catch shortcuts.
The targeted sealing operation will focus on 17 critical points, including major public landmarks, educational institutions, and commercial areas. The list features the District Hospital, Dukh Haran Nath Temple, Shiv Temple, Maa Kali Bhavani Devi Temple, Guru Nanak Chouraha, Mande Nala, Forbesganj Road, the PNB ATM in Haripur, Jai Mahakal, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Pathvalia Post Office, and the premises near Amit and Aryan Motors.
According to Sarvesh, Assistant Engineer for the National Highways Division in Lucknow, the project to block these 17 illegal access points carries an estimated expenditure exceeding 500,000 rupees. He further stated that field teams are already mapping unauthorized median openings on adjoining highway networks to compile a secondary action report for future closures.
This safety initiative follows a highly successful drive conducted last month, which successfully sealed over 20 illegal cuts along the route from Ambedkar Chouraha to Colonelganj. That previous intervention yielded a measurable decline in regional road accidents, reinforcing the administration’s confidence that the current campaign from Choupal Sagar to Badgaon will substantially enhance commuter safety and streamline traffic flow across Gonda’s highway network.
