Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has set a clear and composed vision for the team ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 season, emphasising consistency and adaptability as the cornerstones of success.
Addressing the media during a pre-season press conference in Ahmedabad, Gill underlined that sustained performance matters more than one-off high scores. “At the end of the day, you have to score more runs than the opposition. Whether it’s a narrow win or a dominant one, the objective remains the same. We are not chasing the idea of scoring 300-plus in a single match. Instead, we want to be a team that consistently posts strong totals based on the conditions,” he said.
Gill also stressed the importance of performing across varying conditions, noting that the team is focused on being competitive both at home and away. “We don’t want to be a side that performs only on batting-friendly pitches. The aim is to win matches in all kinds of conditions,” he added.
Head coach Ashish Nehra echoed the captain’s approach, highlighting the team’s intent to remain versatile and resilient. “We want to build a team that can win anywhere, in any situation. That adaptability is key in a tournament like the IPL,” Nehra said.
Speaking about his personal approach, Gill reiterated that team success takes precedence over individual milestones. “Whether I’m playing for India or Gujarat Titans, my focus is always on the team winning. Personal achievements come secondary,” he stated.

Since their debut in 2022, Gujarat Titans have established themselves as one of the most consistent sides in the league, including a title-winning campaign in their inaugural season. Gill expressed confidence that maintaining this consistency could once again put them in contention for the trophy.
Addressing concerns around the team’s middle order, Nehra dismissed suggestions of underperformance. He explained that the dominance of the top order often limited opportunities for the middle order to contribute.
“When your top three are batting deep into the innings, it’s not easy for the middle order to make an impact. There were a few instances where they could have finished games, but overall, it’s a challenging role,” he noted.
Gujarat Titans will open their IPL 2026 campaign against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on March 31, as they aim to translate their philosophy of consistency into another successful season.
