Lucknow: Lucknow Police have arrested a habitual criminal involved in a house-breaking theft and recovered stolen property from his possession. The arrest was made by Gosainjganj police under the Southern Zone of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
According to police officials, the complainant Pankaj Gupta, son of late Jayanarayan Gupta and a resident of Sahantola under Gosainjganj police station, lodged a complaint on February 6, 2026. He stated that he had gone to Kanpur with his family to attend a wedding function. Upon returning home, he found the main door of his house broken and household articles scattered inside.
During the investigation, CCTV footage was examined, which clearly showed Suraj Mishra, son of Lalji Mishra, a resident of Matantola, Gosainjganj, entering the house and committing the theft.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Gosainjganj police station under Case Crime No. 48/26, Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Acting swiftly on a tip-off, police arrested the accused Suraj Mishra late on the night of February 6.
During the arrest, police recovered a pair of silver anklets and ₹720 in cash from the accused. Following the recovery, Section 317(2) of the BNS was added to the case.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he is addicted to drugs and commits thefts to finance his addiction. Police records revealed that Suraj Mishra is a habitual offender with a total of nine criminal cases registered against him—eight at Gosainjganj police station and one at Chinhat police station. These cases include charges related to theft, possession of illegal property and offences under the NDPS Act.
After completing necessary legal formalities, the accused was produced before the court and sent to jail.
The arresting team included Sub-Inspector Lal Singh, Sub-Inspector Charan Singh and Constable Ranjit Kumar.
