Udita Aims for Strong Comeback After India’s Silver Finish at Women’s Hockey Asia Cup

New Delhi |  India’s women’s hockey team finished as runners-up at the 2025 Women’s Hockey Asia Cup in Hangzhou, falling 1-4 to China in the final. Despite the loss, fullback Udita expressed pride and gratitude after being named the tournament’s best player.

Udita played a pivotal role both defensively and offensively, helping to anchor India’s backline while supporting forwards in attack. With regular drag-flicker and all-rounder Deepika Sahrawat sidelined due to injury, Udita stepped up to take on penalty corner duties, scoring three crucial goals from set pieces for India.

Commenting on the award, Udita said, “Being named the tournament’s best player is a proud moment for me. This recognition is especially meaningful because I missed the FIH Pro League European leg, and my goal was to make a strong comeback in such an important tournament. I am grateful to my teammates and coaching staff for trusting and supporting me. Our team performed as a unit, showing resilience in tough matches. Victories against South Korea and drawing with Japan boosted our confidence. Unfortunately, the final did not go in our favor, but winning silver will motivate us for bigger challenges ahead.”

Udita added, “I dedicate this award to my team. Individual awards are special, but for me, this reflects the collective effort of our entire squad. Every player contributed, and I feel proud representing such a dedicated team. We will come back even stronger from this experience.”

India’s silver medal finish and Udita’s standout performance underscore the team’s growing strength on the continental stage, setting the tone for future international challenges.
